Can Tennis Do That For Me?
While standing in the grocery store check out line last night, I spotted a copy of this month's Ebony magazine with Serena Williams on the cover. Anyone who knows me also knows that when it comes to tennis players, Serena is one of my fave's. She is a strong, beautiful, spirited women with great athletic ability. There are men (my father included) who admire not only her athletic ability, but her physique. Looking at Serena, on the cover, posing in a sleek, body hugging swimsuit makes you wonder, "can tennis do that for me?" I'm here to tell you that it can. While the picture seems to focus on the external Serena, you can also see her internal strength and beauty glowing through. Because I don't put the same amount of time and effort into my tennis workout as Serena, I can guarantee I probably won't have a body like hers anytime soon. And while, I may not have taken full advantage of all the physical workouts, tennis has provided me with an array of mentally draining workouts. All have served as a driving force behind my improved mental strength and confidence as well as my desire to become more competitive. Now when I look at myself in the mirror everyday my response to the question is, "It already has."

I love that you focused on the "total package" regarding the image of Serena Williams. You recognized what it is mentally (and in a way spiritually) required to be at that level. Lot of women...young girls in particular...should strive for this level of positive body image. Congratulations to you!
